Newsroom reorganization: How to make it work?

Op woensdag 10 december 2008 organiseerde FLEET in samenwerking met Corelio een workshop voor ‘newsroom leaders’ rond ‘Newsroom reorganization: how to make it work?’.

As more and more newsrooms are making the transition from monomedia to crossmedia workplaces, newsroom managers are facing several challenges. Newsroom convergence does not merely require physical reorganization (‘breaking down the walls’) or technological innovation (‘implementing a new content management system’). The major challenge lies in changing the hearts and minds of the people involved – the entire newsroom staff. Traditionally trained and socialized to work for one medium only, journalists need to get familiar with different media and have to learn to collaborate across and beyond borders. Such a cultural change does not go without “cultural clashes”.
